ISO 9001:2026 transition checklist

What changed in the sixth edition, what to review clause by clause, and the records to have ready before your transition audit.

This checklist takes a certified ISO 9001:2015 system through the move to ISO 9001:2026, published on 16 September 2026. It covers the six changes, how to find your own deadline inside a transition expected to end in September 2029, a review of clauses 4 to 10, and the records an auditor will ask for.

What is in the checklist

01

What changed in the 2026 edition

The six changes by clause, from the split of risks and opportunities to the rewritten Annex A, and what each asks of the documents you already hold.

02

Finding your own deadline

How to read your certificate, which dates to ask your certification body for in writing, and four starting points by expiry year.

03

Clause by clause, 4 to 10

Every clause as a row to mark already met, met but not evidenced, or open, with the evidence to put your hand on.

04

Re-issue and awareness

The order that stops you re-issuing documents twice, with an owner and a date against each step.

05

Records for the transition audit

The four requests about the changes, your transition file and the records any audit opens with, each with where it is kept.

06

The last check before the visit

Six checks and a sign-off, including how to handle an ISO 14001 transition alongside.

Ask for the full checklist

Quality managers and management representatives at organisations certified to ISO 9001:2015, and teams building a first system who want to build straight to the 2026 edition. It is made to be printed, marked by hand and used in your own transition work.

A person reads each request and sends the PDF by email.

Before you ask for it

Q01

Can I download it straight from this page?

No. It is not a public download: you ask for it with your name, company and work email, and a person at ITF reads the request and sends the PDF to you by email.

Q02

What format is it?

A PDF of seven A4 pages, made to be printed. The tick boxes and fill-in lines are drawn for a pen, so each row can be marked by hand.

Q03

Can we use it to prepare for our transition audit?

Yes. It lists the evidence an auditor will ask for, and your team can work through it before the visit. It does not replace the standard, and your certification body sets the audit date and decides the outcome.

Q04

Does it tell us our exact deadline?

Nobody can publish that yet. The transition is expected to end in September 2029, and the day-level dates come from the IAF resolution and then from your certification body. The checklist shows which dates to ask for in writing.
