An ITF certificate of completion records that a named participant attended an ITF course and met its assessment criteria on a date. It is issued by Ignite The Future Company and carries a unique number. Emergency response certificates are valid for one year. Every other certificate records a course on a date and carries no expiry.

What an ITF certificate records sits at step 7 of the delivery cycle. You receive certificates and a training register for your records.
Awarded, not handed out
The certificate is conditional. It goes to participants who meet the assessment criteria, and to nobody else.
There is no certificate for partial attendance, and there is no pass guarantee, because an assessment everyone is promised to pass is not an assessment.
A participant who falls short is told why and can retake on a later run, and you are told which person and why. We would rather report a gap than issue a record that says something untrue.
What is printed on it
| Field | What it says |
|---|---|
| Participant | The name as given at booking, which should match the person's ID |
| Course | The full title, with the edition of the standard where there is one |
| Date | The date of the course, or both dates for a two-day course |
| Contact hours | 4, 7 or 14, depending on the course |
| Assessment | That the participant met the assessment criteria, and for emergency response the outcome of the practical |
| Trainer | The trainer who assessed and signed, whose qualification stands behind the certificate |
| Number | A unique certificate number, kept the same on a reissue |
| Issuer | Ignite The Future Company |
| Valid until | Emergency response only: one year from the course date |
The record behind each certificate
A numbered certificate
One per participant who meets the criteria, issued individually rather than as a cohort sheet.
The marked assessment
The written check, the exercise or the observed practical, marked against the course's guide. This is the record an auditor follows the certificate to.
A training register entry
One line per participant per course, with the valid-until date on emergency response courses.
The trainer's qualification record
For emergency response, the qualification of the trainer who signed goes into your evidence pack, because it is the authority behind the certificate.
Checked before site access in Jubail
A maintenance contractor's supervisors hold ITF permit to work certificates, and its client's HSE team in Jubail wants to check them before granting site access.
The contractor sends the certificates with the evidence pack behind them: the training register entries and the marked assessment for each supervisor. The HSE officer matches each certificate number to its assessment record and sees the course, the date and the outcome, exactly as printed.
For the contractor's first aiders, the register also shows each certificate's valid-until date. One expires next month, so the client asks for the renewal date before extending access, and the contractor books the refresher before the certificate lapses.
Two kinds of validity
Valid for one year
Fire safety and first aid certificates are valid for one year from the course date. Those are physical skills that decay, and a validity date is the honest way to say so.
- The valid-until date is printed on the certificate
- It also sits on your training matrix, so renewals are booked in time
A record of a day, with no expiry
Every other certificate records a course on a date, and a record of what happened on a day does not go out of date. Some providers print a two-year validity on management system certificates, which suggests the knowledge expires on a schedule. It does not.
- Retraining after a standard revision, a change of role or a finding is your competence decision
- That decision belongs on your training matrix, not on the certificate
About the certificate
Is the ITF certificate an accredited qualification?
No. It is an ITF certificate of completion, recognised as what it is: evidence that a named person was trained and assessed on a date, which employers and auditors use as competence evidence. If a contract or a regulator names a specific scheme, send us the wording at enquiry and we will tell you plainly whether ours meets it.
What is the certificate for?
A management system needs evidence that the people running it are competent: ISO 9001 clause 7.2 and its equivalents in ISO 14001, 45001 and 22000. A dated record of who was trained, on what, by whom, and assessed how, is that evidence, and with the assessment record and the matrix it answers the auditor's question in full.
Why do only emergency response certificates expire?
Because those are physical skills that decay. A management system certificate records knowledge of a document on a date, and that record stays true.
Can a certificate be reissued if it is lost?
Yes. Ask us with the certificate number, or the participant's name and course date. The reissue carries the same number.
Does the certificate name the trainer?
Yes. The trainer who assessed the participant signs it, and for emergency response the trainer's qualification record is in the evidence pack.

Send us the clause you have to meet
When a contract or a client's HSE team asks for training evidence, the clause usually says exactly what it wants. Send it with your enquiry and the answer comes back before anything is proposed.
