The 2026 Transition path is ISO 9001:2026 awareness, then ISO 14001:2026 awareness if you hold that certificate, then document and records control, then ISO 9001:2026 internal auditor. It takes three and a half to four and a half days and leaves your own audit programme testing the 2026 clauses.

A timeline from the publication of ISO 9001:2026 on 16 September 2026 to the expected close of the transition in September 2029. The four path courses, ISO 9001 awareness, ISO 14001 awareness where certified, document control and the internal auditor course, sit at the start. Internal audits on the 2026 clauses then run up to a transition audit drawn as a movable block, set by the client's own certificate.ISO 9001:2026 TRANSITION WINDOWDAY-LEVEL DATES WAIT ON THE IAF RESOLUTION9001 AWARENESSSTEP 1 · 1 DAY14001 AWARENESSSTEP 2 · 1 DAY, IF CERTIFIEDDOCUMENT CONTROLSTEP 3 · ½ DAYINTERNAL AUDITORSTEP 4 · 2 DAYSAUDITS ON 2026 CLAUSESTRANSITION AUDITSET BY YOUR CERTIFICATEMOVES WITH YOUR CERTIFICATE CYCLESEP 2026PUBLISHED 16 SEPSEP 2027SEP 2028SEP 2029EXPECTED CLOSETHE REVISION IS MAINLY EDITORIAL. 01

The honest part about the deadline

The ISO 9001 transition is expected to close in September 2029.

The IAF resolution that fixes the mechanics has not been published, so we give no day-level date. Your transition audit falls where your own certificate cycle puts it.

The revision itself is mainly editorial. Most of your system stays, and a path that treats it as a rewrite wastes your money.

What the path leaves behind

01

A 2015 to 2026 change map

One page, clause numbers included, from the awareness day.

02

An external document register

An owner and a check date per item, so the next revision of any standard you cite gets caught.

03

A rebuilt audit programme

Risk-weighted, showing who audits what, with the 2026 clauses in it.

04

Checklists written as questions about evidence

Reusable and process-based, for clauses 4 to 10.

05

A certificate per participant per course

An ITF certificate of completion for each course, naming the assessment passed.

04

Both certificates, before a surveillance visit

A packaging manufacturer holding both 2015 certificates ran the whole path ahead of its surveillance visit.

The two awareness days ran back to back for its managers. The administrator took the document control half day and swept the procedures still citing 2015.

The internal auditor course came last, and the audit programme was rebuilt around the 2026 clauses before the visit.

The manufacturer ended up holding a change map, an external document register, a rebuilt audit programme, and a certificate per participant per course.

05

Where to stop

Three starting points, and what each one takes from the path.

A site that holds ISO 9001 only

Skip step 2. The path is awareness, document control and the internal auditor course, three and a half days in all.

Transition questions

Q01

Do we need everyone trained before the transition audit?

No. The people who maintain the system come first, and awareness for everyone else can follow within the transition period.

Q02

What is the last date for our transition audit?

The transition is expected to close in September 2029. The day-level dates come from the IAF resolution, which has not been published, so plan against your own certificate cycle rather than a date from a training page.

Q03

Is this the same as the consultancy transition work?

No. The path trains your people. If you want the documents revised for you, ITF Consult runs the transition as a project, and the two can run side by side.
